PBA Zone : IT Environment : Development and Test Environment Area

All IT organizations have development and test environments which they must manage every day. It is important for architectural teams to understand the structure and capabilities of these development and test environments. This includes not only the tools and technologies, but the support mechanisms, the process structures (especially change and configuration management structures), approval processes, integration needs and training issues.

Perspective Capture Questions: Development and Test Environment Area:

a) What development and test environments exist within the IT organization?

b) What processes, structures and/or tools exist to support these development and test environments?

c) How do professionals utilize these development and test environments in the real world?

d) How have these development and test environments evolved?

e) Are there any time, training/resource or money gaps to support the existing development and test environment?
Alternative Impact Questions: Development and Test Environment Area:

a) How do (or could) alternative architectural decisions align with the existing development and test environments?

b) Does (or could) the alternative architecture decisions require a new development and/or test environment (or significant modification)?
Proposed Impact Questions: Development and Test Environment Area:

a) How do proposed architectural decisions align with the existing development and test environments?

b) Do proposed architecture decisions require a new development and/or test environment (or significant modification)?
