PBA Zone : IT Environment - IT Operational Processes

Operational Processes usually consist of both formal and informal structures which handle overall day to day event driven activities for many solutions in the data center. Some examples include execution, auditing, development processes like ITIL (information technology infrastructure library), CobIT (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology), CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Index), Six Sigma, Rational Unified Process, Microsoft Operations Framework, Microsoft Solutions Framework.

Furthermore, there are often informal processes in the data center which must be understood to ensure that the solution elements work well within the environment. For example, some processes include aspects of a Hero Model where a few well informed, well skilled individuals play a significant role in the overall success of the IT environment. Hero Models are usually quite fragile and easily broken if architectural components do not align well to given dependency. Most organizations work quite diligently to incrementally reduce the importance of hero models on their operations as this model usually cannot grow adequately with increased scale and complexity of an organization.

Perspective Capture Questions: IT Operational Process Area

a) What formal operational processes exist at the IT organization?

b) How are these operational processes utilized in the IT organization? (examples: accepted, ignored, adapted...)

c) What informal operational processes are utilized by the IT organization?

Alternative Impact Questions: IT Operational Process Area

a) What is or would be the impact of the current or alternative architectural decisions on these operational processes?

Proposed Impact Questions: IT Operational Process Area

a) What is or would be the impact of the proposed architectural decisions on these operational processes?
