PBA Zone : Requirements Environment : Executive Sponsors


Executive Sponsors represent powerful individuals who can politically, organizationally and financially directly protect and promote an initiative within an organization. Depending on the complexity, cost and importance a project has to the organization, an executive sponsor’s participation can promote or destroy the success of an initiative.

Perspective capture questions

a) What is motivating them to sponsor this initiative?


b) Do they have the political, organizational and/or financial power to sponsor this initiative?


c) How far will they go to ensure the success of this initiative? What are the boundaries you must respect?


d) How is the executive sponsor paid, promoted or otherwise rewarded at the company?



e) What other projects is the executive sponsoring or will be sponsoring soon?


f) What aspects of the executive sponsor need to be protected?

Alternative impact capture questions for the currently uilitzed solution area:

a) Does the current or alternative design plan match the executive sponsor’s expectations?


b) What action items will the executive sponsor need to do to ensure the success of this initiative based on the current or alternative design? How much risk does this ask of the executive sponsor?


c) Will the current or alternative design promote any conflicts of interest for the executive sponsor?


d) How will the current or alternative design promote the personal success of the executive sponsor?


e) Will the current or alternative design promote cohesion with other projects the executive sponsor is sponsoring or is planning on sponsoring?

Proposed impact capture questions for the currently utilized solution area:

a) Does the proposed design plan match the executive sponsor’s expectations?


b) What action items will the executive sponsor need to do to ensure the success of this initiative based on the proposed design? How much risk does this ask of the executive sponsor?


c) Will the proposed design promote any conflicts of interest for the executive sponsor?


d) How will the proposed design promote the personal success of the executive sponsor?


e) Will the proposed design promote cohesion with other projects the executive sponsor is sponsoring or is planning on sponsoring?
